What's Up In the Library?

October 6th is Read for the Record
Students will have the book Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney read to them by special guests.  The students are asked to wear pajamas on Thursday, October 6th.  Students will be trying to break a record of two million students listening to this book.

October 17th - 21st  Book Fair
The first book fair of the school year will be held in lunchroom.  Students will be allowed to shop at the book fair after their lunch time.  Please send any money for the book fair labeled with student name, teacher and book fair.  Checks need to made to CES.  Credit cards  and debit cards will be accepted.

Students in first and second grade have been reviewing AR procedures. 

Kindergarteners are listening to a story and reading poetry.

Deadline for Be A Champion and Read Contest is October 31st 
Make sure all logs are turned in by October 31st

Welcome to School Year 2011-2012!

Welcome to students and parents!  I am looking forward to another terrific year in the media center. I am sending several things home with students library permission forms and 100 logs. 

End of Year Happenings

Wow I can not believe that the end of our school year is here!  I have a few dates to keep in mind. 

Books are due next week.
Kindergarten May 9th
First Grade May 10th
Second Grade May 11th

We are now doing our final AR store for the students!  It has been a great year!  Keep reading this summer!

March Madness in the Media Center

The first and second grade students are visiting the AR store to cash in points for prizes.  The students have been reading quite a bit! This is our last nine weeks so encourage your student to read!

Kindergarten students are learning about the author and illustrator Rosemary Wells.  Students are listening to several of her books.

Poster Contest

First and second graders have an opportunity to submit a poster in this contest.  The Elmore Reading Council is asking students to design a cover for their favorite book.

Deadline January 31st  Send to the Media Center

Rules
Requirements: Poster must show TITLE and AUTHOR clearly
Size: Half a sheet of any color poster board
Media: Your choice (ex. watercolors, pastels, markers, etc.)
Label: Name, grade and school on BACK of poster
Judged on: Neatness, Originality and Creativity

2011 News

Happy New Year!!!  We are starting the year off with a bang for first and second grade students!  Tuesday will begin the second AR store this school year!  Students have been reading lots of books second semester!  I am so excited that they will get to spend their AR points on prizes!  Keep up the good reading!  The more you read the more you will grow!

Kindergarten students will be talking about growing.  This will include humans, animals and plants.  I am looking forward to seeing how much you have grown this past semester!  You can really see changes in you after the break.

December Days

The next few weeks students will be learning about Christmas traditions.  Fiction, non-fiction and map skills will also be discussed during our classes.
